Five Likes Tuesday

So when I need a quick reminder I find quotations helpful.
My grandmother always used to tell me this: "If you have a lemon day keep sweet, and don't let the lemons get to you... maybe the next will be a glowing day!"
Tesco Snack Melton Mowbray mini Pork Pies.
They are chewy, luscious, and dangerously delicious. Once you've tasted these pies, nothing else will suffice!

A pork pie is a traditional British meat pie; it consists of chopped pork and pork jelly sealed in a hot water crust pastry.
It is normally eaten cold as a snack and it tastes really, really good! I could so fancy one now!
't Minnewater Tea-Room/Creperie in Bruges, Belgium. All I can say is that I seriously had one of the most delicious Blueberry waffles with Blueberry syrup there.

{At this point, just wanted to say that I like the way Americans mix sweet with savoury, so it is entirely normal to see chocolate pancakes with maple syrup served with bacon.
I just love American breakfasts!}
Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano (Parmesan) cheese. This is so good; very flavourful and so delicious.

Not sure what this delicate flower is, but I sure love it!
Does anyone know?

What are your five favourite things from this past week? I'd love to hear. xx

That flower looks like a peony of some sort to me. I love mixing sweet and savory...my favorite is to drizzle maple syrup on bacon for breakfast...try it, you'll like it :)

A lovely post Betty dear, great images.
Bacon and waffles sounds good, I add lemon juice to many of my salads and recipes.
The flowers could be ranunculas or peonies.
Have a lovely week!

Yes, I would also say that the flower is a peony. Chocolate waffles and bacon sounds good, but I had chocolate covered bacon once and wasn't crazy about it. Love your photos.

i think that flower is a peony.

Your grandmother sounds like a wise woman.

Chocolate and bacon, really? Sounds awful. Mind you Husband dearest enjoys sausages and marmalade and, cheese and jam.

Kelly said...

Lemons, cheese, and pork pie. Yum yum!! Sweet is good, but savory is better!

I'm not sure what a Peony looks like, but it reminds me of our Camellias before they open up fully. (wrong color, too)

Nunca me han gustado los limones, si espero encontrar uno dulce que llegue a mi voy a esperar muchos años.
Creo que la mezcla del dulce y del salado en una buena combinación que se lleva.

Pork pie is usually eaten cold? I wouldn't have guessed that. There is just something about that though, that makes me want to build a raft and pay a visit across the pond to sample this treat. If I had a "bucket list," eating pork pie would be on it.

Here, in Asturias, we eat pie of various kinds of meat: pork, chicken, mussels, octopus ... and, above all, La Fabada, consisting of several types of pork with beans ... is delicious!
The flower is in the photograph, I think it is a ranunculus. Also called francesilla or Maimoñas.
I do not particularly like the mix of sweet with salty.
Five things of the past week: Clean up the garden, sea view, writing, walking with my dog and playing guitar.
Hugs, Betty.

Could be a peonie rose...don't know.

Yes, we do miss lots of foods. That is part of the charm of exploring different foods from different areas. Even without our country, there are many variations on the way we eat.

Our favorite meal growing up was chocolate gravy not at all what it sounds like. It is a thin sweet chocolate pudding served over hot hand made biscuits and yes, we have served it with bacon.

When my girls were growing up with company over, this was the dish most requested by guests.

Betty Manousos said...

craver, a cold pork pie sounds weird indeed, but these are something of a british staple, and always eaten cold. they eat hot pork pies in yorkshire though... strange, isn't it?

Betty Manousos said...

gail, chocolate gravy sounds great!
i'm a huge fan of american delish bisquits, and pancakes!!

I imagine I would like a cold pork pie -- I have some British heritage, after all! :)

The pork pie looks yummy - I love anything with a piecrust like that.

Here is the south we have a restaurant - Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles. It's fried chicken served with breakfast waffles - sweet syrup and all. Strangely good.

Of my favorite things from last week, I would have to say I enjoyed a delicious fish and chips lunch downtown with my husband. I think it was the company that I enjoyed, though, more than the fish. ;-)

I loved the photos, my dear Betty. They are all lovely, colorful, and just delicious looking!

Wishing you a beautiful rest of the week...

Big hugs,
Nevine :-)

Love this post and these photos. You got me with the cheese, it's my weakness. Would love to go to that tea room and have those blueberry pancakes. Breakfast is, without a doubt, my favorite meal. My five things:
My wifes buttermilk pancakes ( home made) and maple syrup
- A cheese board for dinner, with blue, monchego, chedder and bri, accompanied by a glass of wine.( or 3)
- Home made pizza, with arugala, mozzarella and fig. ( talk about sweet and savory)
- Morning coffee with freshly ground coffee in my new cuisiart coffee maker.

Now I'm hungry
