My lovelies, what are you reading? I just finished reading my book
and I'm searching for a new one. I've never been a huge reader,but when I sink my teeth into a good book I can't stop.

What did you just finish reading?

ReplyDeleteI've been reading books for the challenges I've signed up for and most of them have been very good. One I might recommend is "West With the Night" by Beryl Markham. It's a memoir, not too lengthy, and very interesting.

ReplyDeleteI recently read "The island" by Victoria Hislop.It was a wonderful story about life.The story takes place in Crete about some decades ago when people suffered from leprosity.You should read it!

Mmm, my reading is sporadic of late. ALL my reading has been textbooks and notes I've taken in class. When I'm off in the summer I typically read a lot, but the last two summers I've gardened and canned and put away. I hope to find something more intriguing than probability and statistics!
ReplyDeleteLast good book I read was How to Say Goodbye in Robot by Natalie Standiford. It's actually a kid's book--a fact I didn't know when I downloaded it to my Kindle after reading about it in The Week. Turned out to be a great read, even though it was meant for teens :)
ReplyDeleteDear Betty, Most of my reading nowadays is my textbook reading. But, when I can grab a few free minutes, I like to read Italo Calvino. Highly entertaining, each and every time. I have never been disappointed!

I am not a big fiction reader, but the last couple years I have been dipping into Wendell Berry, who writes about rural life in Kentucky. His novels are mostly the main character telling their life story, or an episode from their life, through the lens of memory and reflection. He is a fine and deep writer: nothing precious, but plain and wholesome.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite novel by Berry is "Jayber Crow" (about 350 pages long) about an orphan who grows up to be a barber in a tiny town and his looking back over much of his long life; and a nice short novel by him is "Andy Catlett: Early Travels" about a ten year old's story of his solo trip to visit his grandparents.

I always love reading but recently I'm more into books with heavy visuals. My gf just gifted me six lonely planet books (sri lanka, mexico, thailand, etc.) and my most favorite is the lonely planet MUMBAI book.

I recently read Angry Housewifes Eating Bon Bons by Lorna Landvik. It's has much more depth than it sounds. It was a good read.
I finished reading " The Namesake " by Jhumpa Lahiri a while back ..I have always been a big fan of the movie and when I got hold of the book I couldn't resist it ..

ReplyDeleteWhile I love the classics at the moment my reading is more light. I am catching up on my ARC's for reviews. I recently finished Miss Hildreth Wore Brown, Anecdotes of a Southern Belle. It is a quick read and hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI'm just over half way with one called The Girl Who Disappeared Twice and will then be starting Ordinary Thunderstorms. One I'm looking forward to, and hopefully it won't disappoint, is The Rebellion of Jane Clarke.

Hi...I browsed through the comments first before I recommend...I like 'Everyone Is Beautiful' by Katherine Center. It focuses on stay-at-home moms alike. It's a really funny book because moms can really relate. A very good one, if you ask me.
