"Ulysses's Gaze" by Greek movie director Theo Angelopoulos.
"Voyage to Cythera" by Theo Angelopoulos. I really like this scene. It's breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful. Isn't it?
Google doodle (on Google's homepage) just inspired me today. Today, Google is honouring the 77th Anniversary of birth of Theo Angelopoulos- who was one of the greatest Greek filmmakers (the greatest Greek filmmaker in my opinion)- with a beautiful "Doodle" with blue, Greek epsilon (ε) at the end of the word Google, and a figure of a film director behind a movie camera. Those of you that have been following my blog for a long time know that I am a huge movie fan. I do love cinema and its magic, so I couldn't resist the opportunity to write this post today.
Theo Angelopoulos was an award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter and producer, with tremendous vision and great story telling ability. His movies look more like a visual poetry.
(He passed away on January 24, in Athens' port, Piraeus, while shooting his last film, The Other Sea. It was not from illness; he was struck crossing a street in Piraeus by a motorcycle.)
Theo Angelopoulos has been likened to a kind of orchestral conductor more than a conventional movie director. "I'd describe myself as a translator," he says. "A translator of a sound, a feeling and a time that comes from far away. When it comes to me, I have no choice but to absorb it."
How inspiring this is!
Here's the official trailer of Theo Angelopoulos movie "To Vlemma Tou Odyssea" aka Ulysses's Gaze.
What's your inspiration lately?
Hope you have a fabulous weekend! xx

What an aweful waste -- he looks like he was a man with a definite passion for creating beautiful cinema.
My inspiration lately? Hmmmm. Intrigued by French decorating style. It doesn't fit my old farmhouse, but I do like to look and learn. :)
A glowing tribute Betty.
No la conozco, pero viendo el vídeo creo que me iba a gustar por el tema.
Que tengas un lindo fin de semana
i love movies but have never heard of him, i am not into who makes them and most of the time cant remember the names of the stars they were in. such a waste of a great life to die like that. Keep Walking is my motto and has been for years. I walk 2 miles a day and I always park at the further point of a parking lot. my doc says i have staved off diabetes by walking. my mother and her family all died at age 63 from diabetes and were in wheel chairs for the last few years of their lives, theynever walked, ever, we put them out at the entrance to where ever we went and then parked. i watched all this and decide to do what i could. now i am 67 and no diabetes and still walking. it is the best thing we can do for our bodies. and FREE
Such a shame about his untimely death.
My inspiration of late is to live each day to its fullest!
Wishing you a super weekend. I hope you will make the green pepper salsa and enjoy it as much as we did.
Sad that he passed away in that accident.
I'm inspired by the colors & smell of summer here in my country now.

hmmm. i think i need to ponder that question. and find it.

very similar to what is motivating me these days. One step at a time. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step :)

Those stills really make you want to see the film! We all need something to keep us going forwards, mine changes with time, though. I like to feel happy about were I am, too.

Wonderful post about Theo Angelopoulos. Great filmmaker who conveys great things.
My source of inspiration at the moment is the need to believe in something that gets us out of this situation of crisis we are experiencing. My inspiration is people and their good feelings.
Hugs, Betty and good weekend.
Lovely photos, oh, you didn't take them, never mind, it must be the weather.

As you've expressed, dear Betty, this blog world provides inspiration.
The man in the first photo doesn't look like he's wanting a kiss.
Happy weekend.

Please have a good weekend ahead.
I wonder if they'll finish his film? So sad. Lovely that Google honored him like that.
What a great tribute, Betty! I love the Google Doodles and I have blogged about these in my "other" blog:

I find inspiration in the beauty and kindness I see around me when I take the time to look.
The excellent answer, gallantly :)
found you via The Brick Street Bungalow's floral tribute "Flowers for Leontin" (SP). Nice looking blog and I am intrigued by the trailer, "Ulysses Gaze" even if I'm unfamiliar with the director. So, thank you!

Typical of natures outrageous acts. Smothering a creative mind. A fascinating tribute. And gave me a glimpse of the man a new name to me though.
Great tribute. I'm ashamed to say that I never heard of him despite being a cinephile. And was that Harvey Keitel in the first photo? One of my favourite actors ever? :-)
Beautiful post.
Greetings from London.
yes, definitely a great film maker...
cuban in london, yes, that was harvey keitel, one of my favourite actors of all time.

I have to go deep inside my dream in order to get inspired.
Thanks Betty, interesting post. I´ve learnt a lot more now! And agree - the second one is a breathtaking scene !
His work does look beautiful ... those scenes just gorgeous! Love those words .. keep walking!
Przykro mi, niestety filmu nie widziałam. O reżyserze i jego śmierci wiedziałam. Pozdrawiam.
I'm sorry, unfortunately I have not seen the film, but it may be interesting, if you liked it. The director and his death, I knew. Yours.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Wonderfully inspiring!
You make me want to investigate the films he has made.
Hi dear! I suppose it will take some time to get here, to Portugal...but I think it is great!
Good night!
Love
Isabel
Very cool- I thought about letting my kids give this a go.
Bonito reconocimiento a este cineasta .
Saludos.
I'm late but I'm here. I have not heard of him My last inspiration was Flowers for Leontien. sandie
His untimely death was a Greek tragedy (no pun intended) and a tragedy for the world - his works live on, however.
Spring's arrival, one leaf and one flower at a time, is my current inspiration.
Have a wonderful week!
I do not even know how I finished up right here, however I believed this publish was
good. I don't realize who you are but certainly you're going to a well-known blogger in case you aren't already. Cheers!
