Are There "Ugly" Women?

This photo was taken at a competition. The competition was
between nine women who had to have makeovers.
They had every possible beauty treatment available to them
                                        over a period of time.
Look at the before and after photos. Conclusion: There are no
"ugly" women, only poor women. If we had the money....
Seriously, at this point I feel it is important to say that
"Ugliness" is usually on the inside, and has the face
of jealousy, malice, and not on the outside.

I was at the library yesterday and went ahead and picked up
this book. The book: Uglies Trilogy, (Uglies, Pretties,
Specials) and Extras by Scott Westerfeld.
I am not sure if I'll get through all of it, but I did read the first
chapter, and found the info eye-opening.
I liked the idea of this bizarre and yet quite likely utopia, so
I went reading, and I think the story got better as it developed.
I was especially interested in the main character's personal
development- from a cheeky but not very opinionated "ugly"
she became a liberated free-willed young woman.
The book is recommended for anyone who likes a good,
                                           thoughtful read. xx

I Need to Stay Motivated

I have been finding it quite difficult to manage my negative thoughts lately.
And my negative thoughts can seriously affect my mood and my overall quality of life.
Actually, I see things in black and white.
If I don't finish something perfectly (perfectionism!?), then I feel I am a complete "failure".

Sometimes I think that things in life are either nice or terrible.
I also think that since a single negative event occurred in the past that it will occur over and over again.

Apparently, I focus on one negative detail so intently that my whole outlook on the situation is completely negative.
I don't understand why I don't allow myself to enjoy positive feelings as I tell myself that a negative feeling (fear!?) is sure to follow.
Alas, I end up feeling bad about feeling good!

In fact, negative thoughts can be very powerful and things that normally would seem like no big deal can feel utterly overwhelming.
But, we live in tough economic times and I think it's natural to feel overwhelmed during such tumultuous periods like these.
Coping with anxiety? Oh, yes!
I think, I know, I need to stay motivated.

I strongly believe that our attitude is something that we can control. I'm not quite there myself yet but I'm working on it.
What I'm trying to say is that accepting the things I can't change or don't have control over and having the courage and stubbornness to change the things I can.
I sure hope, I sure know, I just found the answer!

Have you ever felt hopeless? Have you ever figured out that something prevent you from living life to the fullest? xx

I have been working too hard the past couple of days and could not visit all my favourite blogs.
Hopefully I will get back in the groove tomorrow.

Have a wonderful Friday, my lovelies! xx

This is How I Heard

How was your day? This is how I heard your day was going on...
First you had trouble getting out of bed.

You had a stiff neck.

You washed your hair and couldn't do a thing with it.
Your new hat looked better on you at the store.

You keep loosing things.
You got caught in the rain at lunchtime.

Uninvited guests showed up at dinnertime.

On top of that you think you're coming down with the flue.

And finally, you're alone in the house at night when you think you
hear a noise in the basement..!

Maybe tomorrow will be better. xx

The Clerk

Let's talk about strategy today.

We are in Africa, at an African airbase. The writer Antoine de Saint-Exupe'ry made a collection amongst his friends to help a Moroccan clerk who wanted to go back to the city of his birth. He managed to collect one thousand francs.
One of the pilots flew the clerk to Casablanca, and when he returned, he described what had happened." As soon as he arrived, he went out to supper in the best restaurant, gave lavish tips, ordered drinks all round, and bought dolls for the children in his village. The man had absolutely no idea when it came to looking after his money".
"On the contrary," said Saint Exype'ry, "he knew that people are the best investment in the world. By spending freely like that, he managed to regain the respect of his fellow villagers, who will probably end up
giving him a job.
After all, only a conqueror can be that generous."  Thoughts? xx
